seek new horizons on the 6-day silk road tour

Follow the route of ancient traders and travellers, exploring China’s historic Silk Road on this 6-day experience.

 

Day 1  Arrival Lanzhou – Jiayuguan City
Arrive in Lanzhou where your local guide will meet you at the airport. Have a short rest, then head out on a city tour with stops at White Pagoda Hill Park and Gansu Provincial Museum. After the tour, you will be transferred to the railway station for your overnight train ride to Jiayuguan City.

 

Day 2  Jiayuguan City Dunhuang 

Arrive in Jiayuguan City in the early morning. After a short break, visit to Jiayuguan Pass along the Great Wall, also known as the ‘First and Greatest Pass Under Heaven. After soaking up the sights, you’ll embark on a 4.5-hour drive (385km) to Dunhuang.

 

Day 3 Dunhuang Liuyuan Turpan
Start your day of discovery in Dunhuang with a visit to Mogao Grottoes, the largest, oldest and best-preserved array of Buddhist grottoes in the world. After lunch, continue your visit to Crescent Spring and Singing Sand Dune (Mingsha Hill). Afterward, transfer to Liuyuan Railway Station (120km) for your overnight train to Turpan.

 

Day 4 Turpan Urumqi
Arrive in Turpan in the early morning where your local guide will meet you at the railway station then accompany you on a wonderful visit to Jiaohe Ancient City, revealing traces of a prosperous ancient trading centre and military stronghold from 1,600 years ago. Next it’s on to Grape Valley, famous for cultivating the sweetest grapes, and then visit the Flaming Mountains. After lunch, continue your visiting to Karez Well, the underground water system, then spend about three hours driving to your next destination, Urumqi.

 

Day 5 Urumqi
After breakfast, drive 1.5 hours to Heavenly Lake (Tianchi Lake), the clear holy water under Heaven Mountain. Enjoy your relaxing visit there then be transferred back to Urumqi. On the way, if the time permits, you can enjoy a short stroll to Erdaoqiao Great Bazaar.

 

Day 6 Departure Urumqi 
Transfer to the airport for your flight to your next destination.
