The tourism tax will be enforced on September 1st. The tax applies to foreign tourists, who will be charged a flat rate of RM10 per night and per room for all types of hotels and accommodation. The tourism tax will not apply to homestays and kampung stays registered with the Ministry of Tourism.
The tourism tax will be collected from guests by the hotel at the time of check-out. Only Hotel Operators are allowed to collect Tourism Tax. Any hotel operators not registered with Royal Malaysia Customs Department are not allowed to collect the Tourism Tax and this includes the local Inbound Tour Operators.
Due to the above regulation set by the Royal Malaysia Customs Department, all clients are required to pay the tourism tax directly to the hotel upon check-out. Therefore, Diethelm Travel Malaysia are unable to pay tourism tax on behalf of the clients.

Referring to our notification earlier in regards to the implementation of Malaysia Tourism Tax, we wish to provide you a further update on this matter.

There are still some finer details which are unclear, regret to inform that we are unable to provide any further details and definite answer in relation to this ongoing matter.

Further to our earlier advise about the new introduction of Malaysia Tourism Tax, we wish to provide you a further update on this matter.
The new tax was advised to take effect in July but the implementation date was later postponed to August 01, 2017. However, with just days away from implementation, there are still some finer details which are unclear.
There have been many different reports in the local media about this new tax. The latest news on the tax was a decision to charge foreigners a flat rate of RM10 per room per night, regardless of hotel category, while Malaysians will be exempted from the tax across all classifications of hotels.
