travel in style along the Ayeyarwaddy River with Anawrahta Cruise

This tour combines a gentle journey with a relaxed and luxurious stay on the Anawrahta Cruise. Cruising on the mighty Ayeyarwaddy River is the highlight of this tour, offering the best comfort with the added possibility of exploring the outskirts of Bagan and Mandalay.

Of this crafted 9-day tour, the four nights spent luxury cruising on the mighty Ayeyarwaddy between Mandalay and Bagan with an extension visit to the unique Inle Lake, are what will truly last in your memory for years to come. The Anawrahta features three spacious decks and 23 luxurious cabins decorated with original handicrafts, locally-carved wood panels and richly-textured fabrics inspired by the brocade of Burma’s ethnic minority groups.

The vessel’s restaurant lies on the Terrace Deck with stunning views while Kipling’s Bar is the perfect place to watch the world slip by as you enjoy your favourite wine or cocktail. The Anawrahta is especially proud of its spa, which offers expert service, locally inspired treatments and beautiful surroundings.

On the first day arrival in Yangon, start your introductory tour of the colonial-historical centre of the city followed by an extended visit to the famous Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the world’s most spectacular religious monuments. The following day, fly to Mandalay and board the luxurious Anawrahta Cruise. The ship first sets sail toward Sagaing, one of the ancient capitals of Myanmar and the former royal capital of Ava. The tour includes a horse-drawn carriage ride to help explore the historical area, sprinkled with distinguished ancient monasteries. The next day, a yoga session will be available for early risers on the sundeck as you set sail for Yandabo, a pottery village, to learn how pots are still traditionally produced by hand. On Day 4, sail toward Pakkoku, an old trading town on the western bank of the Ayeyarwaddy. Visit a number of small local industries in the area, such as cheroot-rolling factory and Burmese slippers workshop, followed by a stop at a thriving market where you can buy some Burmese cigars. Continue sailing until eventually arriving at the utmost highlight of this journey – Bagan. On the fifth day, enjoy a sightseeing tour in Bagan with over 2,000 temples, stupas and pagodas in an area of just 30 square kilometres. On Day 6, disembark from the ship and fly from Bagan to Heho to then drive down into the valley to Inle lake. Enjoy a scenic trip on the lake, exploring a 5-day rotating market (which offers insight into the life of the local ethnic Pa-O, Danu and Intha people), floating gardens and more. See the lake’s unique ‘leg rowers’ – Intha fishermen who row standing up with one leg wrapped around a single oar, leaving their hands free to manipulate the conical fishing net, and visit traditional silk weaving workshops and a blacksmith’s forge.

On Day 8, return from Heho to Yangon to explore a bit more before spending your last night in the city. On the last day, fly out of Yangon to your onward destination.
