This tour will take you to the unseen rural side of Mandalay off the beaten track as you discover the hidden rural villages along the Dohtawaddy river with a scenic private boat trip. This is a perfect opportunity to observe how locals make their living and to get a better insight of rural community. Visit the Nagayone pagoda to have an opportunity to see the traditional dancing activities of Nat (spirits) believers. Pick up from your hotel and drive to southeast of Mandalay. Make a stop at the local flowers market near Latkaung village (15 min). Expect to see the lively morning view of biggest wholesale flower market where flowers sellers and buyers come to make their deals. Continue driving to enjoy the pleasant landscape along the road until you arrive at the lime production site to learn the traditional ways of making slaked limes. Your visit will distribute to the children of slaked lime workers for education fund. Then, drive to the embarkation point where your private local boat awaits. In this upper part of the river, the scenery is very beautiful filling with mountains, banana plantation, Mango orchards and other cultivated fields. Continue sailing down to the typical riverside village for 40 min to see local ways of life and try to make nice interconnection. Walk inside the village to learn about local products, rural lifestyle and authentic culture.
Return back to boat and sail down to the Yadanar Bamboo and Sandalwood Farm (25 min) to have home host lunch with authentic Burmese foods. Explore the farms to learn about the Burmese bamboo plantation, sandal-wood trees, banana, thanaka trees and other vegetation field. Proceed to Nagayone Pagoda, located on the north of Dohtawaddy river, where you will visit the seated Buddha Image in the shrine. You have opportunity to see daily dancing activities of Nat (spirit) offering ceremony by the believers. After that, the boat will sail downstream and you will have a chance to stroll around the Makhaya old city, founded by King Athinkhaya in 14th Century after the fall of Bagan, which is a river-bank historical site. Visit the Shwe Yin Hmyaw Pagoda and Shwe Zi Gone Pagoda which was modeled from Shwe Zi Gone Pagoda in Bagan. Then, drive to the Kambat village on the other bank of the river, where your driver will wait for you to transfer back to Mandalay.
