Traveling outside the busy cities and main tourist hubs provides a look into traditional village life and the incredible natural views of Cambodia. We’ll drive to a fishing village near Siem Reap and board a private boat. While enjoying breakfast, we’ll head through the waterways into the Prek Tuol Bird Sanctuary. On the way, your guide will explain about the ecosystem and habitats of the local flora and fauna. You’ll then bird watch from great observation areas and discover the incredible variety of water birds, including endangered species such as pelicans and ibises. After a fried fish lunch, we’ll visit the floating village by paddle boat and witness different aspects of the village activities, such as crocodile farming, traditional medicine, spirit houses and floating schools.

Drive to a fishing village near Siem Reap board a private boat and travel for 1 to 1.5 hours across the lake and its flooded forest. Breakfast will be taken on the boat. Glide through the waterways into the bird sanctuary. On the way, the Osmose guide will explain about the ecosystem and habitats of the local flora and fauna. Do bird watching along the waterways, the lakeshore and from the top of the watching towers where the rangers are guarding the colonies.
Discover the incredible variety of water birds, including endangered species such as storks, pelicans and ibises.
Fresh fish meal will be served for lunch cooked by the villagers.
Visit the floating village on a paddle boat tour organized by the community.
Discover different aspects of the village activities: crocodile farming, fish raising, fishing operation preparation, traditional medicine, boat shops, spirit houses, floating schools, etc.
Return to Siem Reap port and drive back to Siem Reap.

Note: The best time to visit the bird sanctuary is from October to March. In September the bird just return from their migration, so there are not so many bird to see and from April to May, great numbers of birds still occur but the lake level is too low so we cannot access the bird colonies by boat.
In June, when water rises again, most of the birds scatter away throughout Cambodia, and as far as Thailand, southern Laos and Vietnam.

Osmose is a non-profit NGO working in conservation, environmental education and sustainable development. The ecotourism project offers alternative livelihoods to the local communities through opportunities in guiding, paddling, sales of water hyacinth handicrafts, ect. Osmose employs more than 25 locals to protect the water bird colonies.
