The Culture and Cuisine of Phuket

Pick up from your hotel at around 11.30 hours (exact time depends on the hotel's location) and drive south to Chalong Bay. At the bay, enjoy a tasty local seafood lunch with a view out over the pier and sailing boats in the bay. After lunch, make the short journey to visit a small rum distillery where a few years ago a French Caribbean couple started distilling this delicious and versatile spirit, producing an award-winning Rum. The staff explain how the Rum is crafted and then you have a go at creating your own rum cocktail (non-alcoholic drinks also provided).

In our eyes, the highlight of Phuket is the charming Old Town which long ago attracted immigrants from neighbouring countries who brought with them their distinctive architecture, cuisine and culture. Spend at least two-hours in the Old Town, and see how the now brightly painted shophouses along the likes of Talang, Krabi and Dibuk Roads have been lovingly restored. We visit an old coffee house to taste their local blend and explore different local markets, including one where you find detailed amulets believed to provide luck and protection. Afterwards, there is time to explore more on your own and the chance to shop. Before returning to the hotel we travel up to Rang Hill Viewpoint, and take in the wonderful vista of the Old Town, at dusk. At the viewpoint discover a Big Buddha, a panoramic platform and a beautifully designed pavilion. Return to the hotel around 19.30 hours.
