Get a first-hand look at the powerful local tradition of alms giving. In Theravada Buddhism, monks go out every morning to collect alms between the hours of 6 and 7am, walking in a single-file line past locals who put rice and other food items into the bowls. You’ll wake up just before dawn to observe, and possibly participate in, the practice of donating food and other daily necessities in the hopes of earning merit and supporting the religious community.
