tour description

The guide will pick you up from hotel at 08.00, drive to Thapae Gate where your samlor driver will be waiting for you. Start of your Chiang Mai Markets Tour by samlor. You will visit some of the most famous markets of Chiang Mai. First of all this tour will take you to Wat Loi Kroh, a lovely temple. We continue to the famous Iron Bridge over the Ping River before we cross the bridge we have a brief look at the Ancient Lanna House, which has been recently reconstructed.

San Pakoy Market and Wat Ket Museum
Our next destination is the San Pakoy market, a market where very few tourists go. We wander around this small, very old market and taste some fruit of the season. Chat with some of the vendors before we get back in our samlors. After this we cross the busy Charoenmuang road and wind our way through small alleys in the direction of Wat Ket. This is an historic area. Many of the first Western visitors settled in this area. We briefly stop at the Bain compound, formerly the offices of the Borneo Company. Next stop is the Wat Ket temple which houses a fascinating museum with old pictures and artefacts. Jack Bain, son of William Bain, the last manager of the Borneo Company, founded this museum.

Kad Luang and Thapae Road
Let's continue on foot and cross the Ping River via the recently restored Chansom Memorial Bridge that will bring us right into the Tonlamyai Market. We wander through Kad Luang, as the complex of both Tonlamyai and Warorot Markets are called, to a quaint Chinese Buddhist temple where are samlors are waiting for us to continue our Chiang Mai Market tour. We head to Thapae Road, which used to be a street with Burmese shops and temples. Finally we visit two of the most beautiful ones: Wat Buppharam and Wat Mahawan.
We end at Thapae Gate at around 12.30 hrs.
