Transfer to Wongwian Yai Railway Station at the Thonburi side of Bangkok across the Chao Phraya River. Board the non-air-conditioned 3rd class carriage, lean back and enjoy the approximately 30 kilometre scenic journey to Mahachai. On the way, you will notice the skyscrapers of Bangkok become smaller in the distance until rice fields and houses on stilts surround. When the train stops, you will be in the middle of the Mahachai seafood market - one of Thailand's largest traditional fresh seafood markets and also where a variety of other local products are sold. After exploring the market, take the local ferry and cross the river at Tha Chalom - a large fishing village and industrial centre for marine products.
Proceed to the Klong Khone Conservation Centre to learn about biodiversity and the importance of mangroves. We take a longtailed boat to explore the beautiful natural mangrove forests, sadly now becoming rarer to find. One of the highlights is witnessing sea monkeys living along the coastline. Once the monkeys come out and spot you, they will race to greet you in the hope for some fruit. After, enjoy lunch in a local restaurant and return to your Bangkok hotel in the middle of the afternoon.
