tour description

Drive out of Bagan towards Chauk and visit the local market. Continue to drive to Salay. Visit Yokesone Monastery, which is the oldest surviving wooden monastery hall built on 154 teak posts with beautiful wood carvings decorating the outer walls. Continue to Payathonzu, a complex of three brick shrines with mural paintings from the Bagan period, and see Man Paya - a large lacquer Buddha image, said to date from the 13th century. Lunch stop at Salay House which used to be a trading house from the British Colonial time in 1906. This restored riverside warehouse is today filled with antiques to recreate the flavour of this historic time period. Learn and explore how British-Burma operated with displays and information panels. Afterwards, continue to drive to Tamarind Lake village located near Salay. Visit around the village and experience the authentic local life. Return to Bagan along the banks of the Ayeyarwady River through Chauk, where you will see old Burma Oil installations (nodding donkeys). Arrive Bagan in time to enjoy the sunset cruise on the Ayeyarwady River where you board a private wooden boat.
