History and tradition abounds in Phnom Penh, and its surrounding rural areas, often considered the heart of the kingdom. We’ll head to the lakeside town of Takeo where we’ll board a speedboat and visit Phnom Da. Here, you’ll see Phnom Da temple, a pre-Andkorian laterite tower, and visit Asram Maharosei. This Indian-style sandstone temple is a unique experience as it was constructed in a style unlike any other temple in Cambodia. After lunch, we’ll head to a silk weaving village, and learn about handmade silk, before continuing to Phnom Chisor Mountain. We’ll climb to the top of the hill and enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding plains and visit the Brahman temple. Before returning to Phnom Penh, we’ll stop at Tonle Bati and visit the beautiful Ta Prohm temple and Yeay Peau temple.
Depart from Phnom Penh to Takeo. Take a boat from Takeo to Phnom Da (please note that the speedboat does not have a cover or any shade - hat and sun tan cream are essential). Visit Phnom Da temple, a pre-Angkorian laterite tower (6th century) and Asram Maharosei (6th century), an Indian-style sandstone temple constructed in a style unlike any other temple in Cambodia. Lunch at local restaurant. Visit a silk weaving village and continue to Phnom Chisor mountain. Climb the 100-meter hill to enjoy the spectacular view of the surrounding plains and a visit to the 11th century Brahman temple. Stop at Tonle Bati and visit Ta Prohm temple (12th-13th century) and Yeay Peau temple (12th century). Return to Phnom Penh.
