tour details

A great introduction to Thailand. A classical overland route from Bangkok to Chiang Mai (via Ayutthaya – Sukhothai – Lampang – Golden Triangle) but we offer some different experiences throughout. These include a votive tablet workshop near Sukhothai where guests have the chance to make their own votive tablet (baked and later brought to their hotel) and in Sukhothai guests visit a local homestay and help prepare lunch as well as touring the fruit and vegetable gardens.

07:00 hours
In the morning pick up from your Bangkok city hotel and transfer to Ayutthaya Historical Park. Ayutthaya once was the capital of the Siamese kingdom, until it was occupied by the Burmese army in 1767 army and practically leveled to the ground. Located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River visit the restored ruins of the Wat Chai Wattanaram is one of Ayutthaya's most photographed sites. Then visit Wat Phra Sri Sanphet - the prototypes of the famous Grand Palace in Bangkok; Wat Phra Mongkol Borphit, an 'active' temple compound that is visited by many people throughout the day to worship the huge Buddha image; Wat Mahathat - to have a look at the famous Buddha Head in the banyan tree; and Wat Phanan Choeng - located at the banks of the Pasak River and predating the Ayutthaya period, houses a huge beautiful Buddha image (sequence is subject to change).

Our sightseeing is started outside the walls with Wat Chetuphon - with its impressive mandapa enshrining four huge brick and stuccoed images of the Buddha in different postures, the walking, standing, sitting and reclining images each face a different direction, and Wat Chedi Si Hong - along the base of the large bell-shaped stupa are stucco reliefs, depicting animals and people. Some parts are still in good conditions, giving details of the garments and jewelry during the Sukhothai era.

10:00 hours
Then visit Wat Mahathat - the largest and most important temple of the empire, located next to the Royal Palace; Wat Sra Sri - with its bell-shaped chedi that is constructed in the typical Sri Lankan style; and Wat Sri Chum - with the graceful Buddha sculpture enshrined inside the remaining structure of the square mandala building.
