Mulu National Park lies in the interior of Sarawak’s rainforest, about 100 km east of Miri. This UNESCO World Heritage site is home to the world-famous Mulu Caves, which hold many world records in terms of size, height or length. The Sarawak Chamber for instance is the largest known natural underground chamber. It is so big that it could accommodate about 40 Boeings 747 without overlapping their wings. The Deer Cave is the largest known cave passage in the world and is home to a staggering 2-3 million bats. And then there is the magnificent Clearwater Cave with its extremely extensive system of cave passages, which is currently known to be the longest in South-East Asia. It took many years and several expeditions to explore more than 100 km of the Clearwater Cave system, and much still remains unexplored until today.
