Cycle Yangon’s Nearby Island with a Picnic Biking Tour

Suitable for anyone who is in good health and knows how to ride a bike, this short and easy tour is perfect for those looking for good food, authentic village life and lots of interaction with locals.

Starting from the meeting point at 49th Street, the journey begins with a short 15 minutes of cycling through downtown Yangon, stopping at the 18th Street morning market before moving on to Wardan Jetty. Here we’ll board a private boat to the island (20 minutes transfer time) across the Yangon River located near the mouth of the Twante Canal. Once on the island, which is completely car-free and beautiful to explore, cycle at a leisurely pace, being greeted by friendly locals and children on their way to school. After a visit to a local teashop, visit a monastery and the colourful local market before cycling through rice fields and meadows with grazing buffaloes to the tip of the island, to enjoy a picnic in a friendly family’s garden. Cycling further through small villages and bamboo groves, many great photo opportunities will be waiting before reaching the jetty to board the boat again with our bikes. Back at Yangon’s Wardan Jetty, cycle in a separate bike lane past the colonial buildings on Strand Road toward the meeting point on 49th Street, where refreshing drinks and snow towels are waiting for the finishers.
