Nestled in the hills of northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is home to some truly outstanding 5-star resorts known for their incredible accommodation, beauty and northern Thai hospitality. Chatree Sawaddon, Reservation Staff of Diethelm Travel Thailand, recently visited two of the most well known resorts to see if they lived up to the hype…they did!
I just had the chance to visit Chiang Mai. It had been quite a long time since I had visited Thailand’s “Rose of the North” and, I have to say, this was my most impressive trip to the town thanks to the fortunate opportunity to stay at The Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai and Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai – two 5-star luxury resorts that are on the top of many experienced travellers’ lists! Of course, I took a ton of photos…
I had always hoped to stay in The Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai at least once in my lifetime and now my dream has come true. The first thing I thought when I arrived was, “How can I take photos of everything in this land of paradise if I’m just staying here one night??” The architecture made me feeling as if I was stepping back into time and standing in the historic Lanna Kingdom, the ancient kingdom of northern Thailand before it joined with Siam.
Even though I arrived at the hotel in the morning, the room was already ready for me and there was no need to wait until the noon check-in time. I stayed in a Colonial Suite on ground floor with easy access to the main pool. After refreshments, I walked around the resort grounds and enjoyed taking photos of all the wonderful architecture, decoration, ancient palace-like structures and traditional Lanna-style villas.
Just one night here was not enough – there’s so much to see and do – and I missed some of the resort’s interesting features such as the popular Dhara Dhevi Cake Shop, which is known throughout the country for its mouthwatering macarons and afternoon high tea. If I go back again I will be sure not to miss it!
Let’s continue to the next wonderful place. After checking out from The Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai, I proceeded to check in at another luxury resort, which I was really looking forward to.
Under the famous Four Seasons luxury brand, it’s guaranteed that this property and accommodations are truly excellent. To my surprise, I was upgraded from a Garden Pavilion to a Pool Villa. When I first stepped into the villa and looked around, words couldn’t even describe the beauty I saw. Surrounded by water on three sides, the pool villa is a perfect choice for couples as it’s very private.
Moreover, the private pool, which is about 250 square feet, and tropical scene in front of the villa was almost too pretty to step away from – I didn’t need to go anywhere else as I was really enjoying swimming in the awesome pool and relaxing in my villa together with my friend.
The second day in the resort, it was time for some sightseeing and exploring. Since the resort is located in the jungle covered mountains just outside of the city of Chiang Mai, the atmosphere is refreshingly clear and flowers and plants are abundant. Everywhere you turn in the resort, colourful plants and floral arrangements greet you with bright blossoms. The most outstanding part of the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai property is the greenery of the rice fields found at heart of the resort – a scene that made me think of my hometown upcountry.
I will miss you so, Four Seasons!
