Sri Lanka has seen remarkable 16.7% year-on-year growth in tourist arrivals with 1.17 visitors as of July 2016 compared to 1 million by the same time last year.
Data released from the Tourism Promotion Office indicated the source markets that top the list are India with 200,508 arrivals, up 18% in the first seven months of the year, followed by China with 168,473 arrivals, up by 37%. UK came third with 110,649 arrivals up by 18% over the first seven months of 2015.
Sri Lanka Tourism follows the UN standard for defining a tourist as a person who stays at least one night in a country and does not exceed his stay period for more than 12 months.
Sri Lanka’s target for Tourist Arrivals for 2016 is approximately 2.2 Million.
