Sihanoukville International Airport is extending its terminal and taxiway to accommodate up to 500,000 tourists a year. The work commenced at the end of December 2016 and is expected to finish by the end of 2017 or by early 2018 at the latest.
Sihanoukville International Airport received 100,000 tourists in 2015. The airport’s current capacity is 150,000 passengers a year and air traffic is expected to increase 50% in one year.
The cost of the terminal extension and new taxiway is estimated between USD $12 and $15 million. It is part of a USD $2 billion investment programme running until 2040 dedicated for the development of Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap International Airport and Sihanoukville International Airport.
