This is a follow up notice to update on the “indefinite closure of the Rangiri Dambulla Temple”.
The Archaeological Board had issued a statement in mid-July that the cave temple complex will be temporarily closed until further notice, in order to carry out conservation and research. They further stated that tickets will be sold through the Central Cultural Fund.
However, subsequent to a recent media conference held with the chief incumbent and the Archaeological Consultation Board officials, it was decided that the Cave Temple will continue to be kept open for foreign tourists. Rituals will be carried out as usual and the devotees will be allowed to perform their worship with no hindrance.
