tour description

This unique walking tour takes you to the historical Wat Ket area, to Chiang Mai's most beautiful market and onwards to the old Chinese muslim Ban Haw quarter and finishes at the location of the first Christian Church in Chiang Mai. You will visit Christian, Buddhist, Sikh, Chinese and Muslim places of worship and learn about their history. It is a journey to the past. Your guide will show you old pictures of locations along the way on an iPad, bringing the past to life. Itinerary: Your guide will meet you at the hotel at 0800 for a van-transfer to the Wat Ket area where you start at the Christian Church, built in 1968. The church has a small historical room with interesting pictures. From here the route follows along Charoenrat Road to Wat Ket, passing some beautiful old shop houses. At Wat Ket visit the fascinating temple museum. From here, proceed to one of the Sikh Gurdwaras in Chiang Mai (Gurdwara is a Sikh place of worship). Cross the Ping River on Chansom Memorial pedestrian bridge and enter Warorot Market, also known as Kad Luang. This fantastic market never ceases to amaze. A feast for the eye and for the stomach. Here stop by at the Chinese shrine Ong Thao Kong. The area around Kad Luang is the Chinatown of Chiang Mai. Continue walking to the Chinese muslim area Ban Haw. Here visit the Ban Haw Mosque and enjoy a bowl of traditional Khao Soi at a local restaurant. Continue along Charoenprathet Road and stop at two remarkable teakwood buildings, each with its own story. Before crossing the river again admire a 145-year old teak wood Lanna- style house. We cross the bridge and head towards the former Presbyterian Church, built in 1868. Here the tour ends with a van transfer back to your hotel.
