tour details

Kuching is a perfect city to enjoy on foot! Walk down the same streets and alleys that the three “white kings” used to walk during their 100-year reign. Let the sights, sounds and smells of old Asia fill your senses with awe. At the same time, you’ll discover how the Rajahs left their trademark, building beautiful colonial buildings like the Astana or the old Court House. Your highly knowledgeable guides will answer any quesitons you have about the history of the city. Also, visit the oldest Chinese temple in Sarawak, where you’ll walk to the Waterfront jetty and, like James Brooke used to do, take a sampan (river taxi) across the Sarawak river to visit a small Malay village. Explore the old streets and alleys of Carpenter, Gambier & India, and the oldest Indian mosque in Kuching.

Why choose this tour?

Kuching's city centre is well preserved, and virtually all the highlights can be reached on foot or by sampan.

    tour description

Kuching is a perfect city to enjoy on foot! Walk down the streets and alleys that the three "white kings" used to take during their reign of 100 years. Absorb the sights, sounds and smells of historical Asia and discover, at the same time, how the Rajahs built their trademark colonial buildings, like the Astana or the old Court House. Afterwards, wander to the Waterfront jetty and, just as Rajah James Brooke used to do, take a sampan (river taxi) across the Sarawak River, and stroll through a small Malay village up the hill to Fort Margherita. At the fort, learn more about the White Rajahs at The Brooke Gallery (closed on Labour Day 1 May 2020, Sarawak Governors Birthday 12 September 2020 and Malaysia Day 16 September 2020). Continue to explore the old streets and alleys of Carpenter, Gambier and India, and stop at the oldest Indian mosque in Kuching and Chinese history museum. Finish with a visit to the oldest Chinese temple in Sarawak.
