Discover the "real" Vientiane by local transport. Board a tuk tuk (max. 4 pax per tuk tuk) and begin your sightseeing with a visit to the fresh market of Thong Khan Kham. This market is wildly colourful and photo opportunities are plentiful. An olfactory delight - amid the baskets piled with rice, eggs, and tea, ducks, pigs and fish both alive and dead, are food stalls selling noodles, soup, and 'food to go' wrapped in banana leaves. Existing cheek by jowl with these stalls are sellers of jasmine, orchids, and marigolds - the latter being woven into garlands for temple offerings.
After the market, continue on to visit Wat Ong Teu, the temple with the biggest bronze Buddha. Next, visit Wat Inpeng and the last temple stop is at Wat Simuang, known as the the sacred pillar temple.
Finally, before heading back, browse the stalls at the Talat Sao (Morning market) nearby to see the "modern" market selling electronics, clothes and DVDs.
Transfer back to your hotel.
