tour details

Some of the most interesting and important ancient sites of the Khmer Kingdom can be found in the dense forests and lush jungles of Cambodia. We’ll head to the sacred Kulen Mountain range, and hike through the forest to a hilltop and the incredibly interesting Angkorian archaeological site of Kbal Spean. Also known as the Thousand Linga River, Kbal Spean is a spectacular site with carvings etched into the rocky riverbed in tribute to the god Shiva. A nearby waterfall adds to the area’s natural beauty. After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, we’ll drive through typical scenic Khmer countryside to the long-abandoned ruins of Beng Mealea temple where you’ll find ancient remains that are virtually untouched and strangled by the overgrown jungle.

tour description

Morning, drive to the Kulen Mountain range.
Walk 45 minutes through the forest to the top of the hill to reach Kbal Spean, the Thousand Linga River: discover the 10th-12th century sculptures chiseled from the rocky riverbed, the Royal Bath and the waterfall.
(We recommend wearing good shoes for this excursion. The walk up to Kbal Spean takes about 45 min each way and there are a few steep and narrow passages on the way. For your comfort, we suggest you to carry all your personal belongings (camera, water etc.) in a small backpack in order to have both hands free to walk comfortably)
Lunch at local restaurant.
After lunch, drive to the remote Beng Mealea temple through the typical Khmer countryside. Explore the long abandoned ruins of Beng Mealea (11th century), still strangled by the overgrown jungle.
Return to Siem Reap (60 km) at the end of the afternoon.
