Visit a sacred pagoda in the early centre of Buddhism in ancient Vietnam and discover the authentic arts and crafts of North Vietnam as you observe an array of artisan works.
You’ll first drive to But Thap Pagoda, which was built in the reign of King Tran Thanh Ton (1258-1278). The pagoda is renowned for traditional Vietnamese wood carving and sculptures, including the statue of Buddha with one thousand hands and eyes, and the statue of Tay Thien Dong Do Vietnam. Next, you’ll explore Dong Ho traditional block painting village, located on the banks of the Duong River. Using traditional Diep paper and natural colours, craftsmen print Dong Ho pictures of themes such as good luck wishes and historical figures. Surrounded by fertile farmland, the artisans of Bat Trang pottery village form, paint and glaze their products before they are baked for several days in huge kilns.
