World War II came to Singapore in December 1941. With the Fall of Singapore in February 1942. the island was renamed Syonan-To (Light of the South) under the Japanese Occupation until 1945. Walk in the footsteps of the brave men and women during battle and their imprisonment. Let our guide recount stories of collective spirits that rose through the darkest chapter of Singapore's history through key World War II sites. At the Ford Motor Factory, the British formally surrendered Malaya to the Japanese leading to more than 3 years of hardship for those living in Singapore during the Japanese occupation. The Kranji War Memorial commemorates over 20,000 men and women who gave their lives for freedom in World War II. The Changi Chapel is a symbolic replica of the original chapel and stands as a monument for those who would not buckle under Japanese rule.
