During the Second Indochina War (also known as the Vietnam War), the Ben Hai River was the demarcation line between North and South Vietnam. Located at the ’17th Parallel’, this created a Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) of five kilometres each-way from the river. Notably, the southern section of the DMZ was one of the bloodiest battlefields of the whole war. As you tour the DMZ you’ll visit a selection of the most poignant war sites including the Ben Hai River, Hien Luong Bridge, Khe Sanh military base and Dong Ha Town. You’ll also see the fascinating and almost unbelievable Vinh Moc Tunnels. Next you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch at a local restaurant in either Vinh Moc or Dong Que. On the way back to Hue you’ll stop at the Ancient Citadel of Quang Tri, built in 1824 during the reign of Minh Mang.
