A visit to the Unesco World Heritage Site of Ayutthaya provides a look at one of the most important landmarks in Thailand. Once prosperous Siamese kingdom, this former Thai capital is now a fascinating site of historically significant temples and ancient ruins. We’ll visit the monastery, Wat Sri Sanphet, the former Royal Summer Palace, and the large chedi at Wat Yai Chaimongkhol. You’ll have a choice of visiting either Wat Panangchoen or Wat Mahathad. Built before Ayutthaya became the capital, Wat Phananchoeng was the most revered tempe, while Wat Mahathad, with its iconic Buddha head entwined in the roots of a tree, is one of Thailand’s most photographed sites. Finally, we’ll take a boat to Bang-Pa-In, the former Royal Summer Residence, to see exquisite examples of Thai architecture.
