tour details

This morning you will be collected from your hotel to begin a mouth-watering tour of Singapore’s markets, street vendors and local eateries. Your guide will be on hand to explain the history behind the cuisine and the processes involved in creating some of the nation’s more popular dishes; many of which take inspiration from Malay, Chinese, Indian and Peranakan cooking, creating an exotic combination of flavours. This fusion of cultures, along with the vast variety of dishes on offer, are just a couple of reasons why Singapore is such a much-loved destination for food enthusiasts.

You will begin the tour in the heart of the Malay community at the famous Geylang Serai wet market, lies at the heart of the Malay community and features predominately Malay and Indian cuisine. The famous market has a wet section selling fresh produce, from live fish to spices, here you will enjoy all time Singaporean favourites like Roti Prata and Thosai taken with a frothy glass of Teh Tarik.

You will then continue to the Joo Chiat/Katong enclave; an area full of pre-war shop houses and beautiful architecture associated with the Peranakan and Eurasian communities. To Singaporeans this neighbourhood is home to the famous Laksa, Ondeh-ondeh and other delicacies. And, if you’re lucky, you’ll get to watch Popiah masters standing over hot griddles twirling dollops of dough in mid-air to make those paper thin wrappers for fresh spring rolls.

The tour will last for around 3 hours 30 minutes and will provide you with a pleasant, colourful introduction to Singapore’s vibrant food scene – a reflection of Singapore’s cultural diversity
