Vientiane City and Temples Tour

This cultural and heritage city and temples tour begins with a visit to Wat Sisaket, architecturally beautiful and Vientiane's oldest original temple. Amazingly, Wat Sisaket features approximately 6,840 Buddha images! These images date back to the 16th and 19th centuries. Nearby is the impressive Ho Phra Keo (‘Altar of the Emerald Buddha’), once the royal temple of the Lao monarchy. Built in 1565, Ho Phra Keo has been used as a museum since 1970 and contains some of the finest Buddhist artefacts and sculptures in the country. The main structure originally housed the famous Emerald Buddha that now resides in Bangkok's Wat Phra Keo.

From beautiful temples to another iconic building as you continue to Patousay, one of Vientiane's most photographed and distinctive buildings. It bears a resemblance to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The last of the temples we visit is the gold covered and architecturally splendid That Luang Stupa. Built in 1566, the original stupa was said to contain relics of Lord Buddha himself and remains the most sacred monument in Laos. We finish the tour by visiting the Morning Market (which is open all day!), known for its superior silk weaving and handicrafts.
