Unique communities and traditional villages dot the rural countryside near Siem Reap and promise an escape to another world. We’ll drive to the fishing village of Kompong Pluk, translated to Harbor of the Tusks, where we’ll board a private boat. We’ll ride through the community with its houses standing on stilts and board a pirogue to discover the seasonally flooded forest or the village houses standing high and dry on gigantic stilts during dry season. The spectacular views make the village a remarkable place to experience no matter what time of year you visit. You’ll then enjoy the natural splendor of the country as you cruise across the Tonle Sap Lake to the floating village of Chlong Kneas. Here, you’ll discover the centuries-old lifestyle of the inhabitants of the lake.

Drive to the fishing village of Kompong Pluk (if the road is passable) near Siem Reap and board a private boat. Visit Kompong Pluk village with its houses standing on stilts and board a pirogue to discover the seasonally flooded forest. Enjoy the natural splendor of the country during a cruise across the Tonle Sap Lake to the village of Chhong Kneas. Visit the floating village and discover the centuries-old lifestyle of the inhabitants of the lake. Return to Siem Reap port and drive back to Siem Reap.

Note: From August to January the water level is still high enough to flood the forest surrounding the Tonle Sap Lake. For the remainder of the year you will not see a flooded forest but the houses of the village will appear as like standing on gigantic stilts which makes a visit to this village worthwhile all year round.

notes

Ideally a tour to the Tonle Sap Lake is only done during the high-water-level months of July to possibly mid of February. When the water is low boats may get stuck and also the distances to the floating villages increase.
