Chiang Mai’s Buddhist temples showcase a mixture of styles that reflect the varied heritage of Northern Thailand. Elements of Lanna Thai, Burmese, Sri Lankan and Mon have all been used. Intricate woodcarvings and protective serpent staircases add a flamboyance that reflects an awesome reverence for the Buddhist religion. During this half-day tour, you’ll visit Chiang Mai’s largest fresh market (Waroros market) and the following temples: Wat Phra Singh – The large chedi was built in 1345 by King Pha Yu to house the remains of his father King Kam Fu; Wat Chedi Luang – Constructed in 1401, it was destroyed in an earthquake in 1545 before being reconstructed in 1991; and Wat Chiang Man – The oldest temple in Chiang Mai, where King Mengrai allegedly lived while Chiang Mai city was constructed.
