Accessible by a 15-minute boat ride down the Mekong River from Luang Prabang, the colourful gardens were created as a regional research centre with the first living collection of the flora of Laos.Arrive at the pier at Ban Wat That at 8:45 hrs to board the Pha Tad Ke boat that departs at 9:00 hrs. Enjoy a leisurely ride along the river and, upon arrival at Pha Tad Ke Botanical Garden, listen to a short presentation about the gardens before exploring for yourself. Walk through the Ginger Garden and the Ethno-botanic Garden then follow the path through the Limestone Habitat showcasing local plants from the country's limestone mountains. Take your time strolling through the gardens and appreciating the mountainous Mekong landscape. Learn how to make a bamboo stick animal at the site of a hunting lodge of the former royal family then continue the tour walking through the Arboretum, Palm Garden and Bamboo Garden to the charming viewpoint overlooking the rice fields. Stop by the Mist House to learn more about the importance of biodiversity conservation before enjoying lunch at the onsite restaurant and cruising back to Luang Prabang.
