tour description

Depart by car/van from Kuching city to Serian district with a stop-over at the site office for a video presentation, which explains the archaeology and geology of the cave area. After the equipment and safety briefings are complete, we drive a further 45 minutes through some of the area's pretty farmland to the cave entrance. In the cave we will provide briefings on natural history and the local people whilst you look at the cave paintings that cover the walls. Then we go deep inside the cave. Ceilings in this cave are up to 35 metres high and there are streams, waterfalls and enormous calcite structures to admire as well as a range of cave dwellers. The route takes us 1 km inside the mountain, passing through many chambers, before we retrace our steps. For those for whom this is too much of a challenge we can shorten the route.
500 metres round the mountain we enter a second cave through a river. Whilst swimming is not required a dryer route is available for the less intrepid. Less than 200 metres into this cave is a small but beautiful chamber, which is the point at which we return to the entrance.
Having changed in a temporary shelter, we return to our base and to a nearby restaurant for local Chinese-style dinner. Return time to Kuching is about 19:00 hrs.
