Why choose this tour?

This tour package provides you with all the main attractions of Kuching and Sri Aman divisions in Sarawak for the more adventurous clients to experience a 1 night Iban longhouse homestay
Upon arrival at Kuching International Airport, you will be met by a Diethelm Travel representative. Transfer by air-conditioned vehicle to the hotel in Kuching.

Check in at the hotel and then free at leisure.

In case of arrival in the morning, you may opt to book the walking city tour "Walk The White Rajah Trail" (not included in the package).

Overnight at The Lime Tree Hotel

    Meal included:
    None
    8:00 hours
After an early breakfast, check out from your hotel. Depart to the Semenggoh Nature Reserve. The entire facility occupies an area of 740 acres and acts as a sanctuary for orangutans that have been rescued from captivity and young orphaned primates. Many have been returned into the surrounding area of the nature reserve. But there are few that will never re-learn their natural skills due to a long association with, and dependence on, humans. There are daily scheduled feeding times. However, sightings of these primates during feeding times are not guaranteed because the orangutans roam freely within the nature reserve.

After your visit to the Orangutan Centre, continue the journey by air-conditioned vehicle to Sri Aman Division. Along the way, visit the native market in Serian, pass by rice fields and visit a pepper plantation (if time does not permit to stop on the way, a stop is made on the way back from Sri Aman). The last stop is at Lachau, a small up-country Chinese village, for lunch, before proceeding to Sri Aman.

Upon arrival at Sri Aman, you will be checked into your Seri Simanggang hotel.
In the afternoon, take a guided stroll of Sri Aman town, visit Fort Alice (closed every Monday's) and the century-old Tze Yin Khor Chinese temple located on the bank of the Lupar River.

Overnight at Seri Simanggang, Deluxe Room.

After breakfast, take a short stroll with your guide to the nearby native market that offers a fascinating variety of unusual items.

Mid-morning, check out from hotel and get ready for your departure by air-conditioned vehicle to the beautiful Batang Ai lake. The journey by road takes approximately 1 'bc to 2 hours. Upon arrival at Batang Ai jetty, board a native longboat for about 45 minutes on the lake to reach your lunch spot by the lake. The Iban, together with your guide, cook a delicious lunch in the comfort of the beautiful surroundings. The food is steamed within bamboo tubes on an open fire. After lunch, enjoy a guided walk with members of the Iban tribe through the lush foliage to the longhouse. Along the walk/trek, the guide explains the uses and properties of the jungle plants and produce. On arrival at the village, the guide leads you to the longhouse to meet the Ibans and their families and have a tea break.

In the evening, choose whether or not to join your guide in preparing dinner. Observe how, with simple cooking utensils and local ingredients, a delicious meal can be prepared.

After dinner, the Ibans sound their gongs and perform a war dance in full ceremonial regalia.

The simple facilities at the longhouse mean you need to take essential things with you in a day bag. Bedding and towels are provided for your stay, but you might like to think about packing a good torch, along with mosquito spray, a change of clothes and toiletries. Other useful things include earplugs as there is very little sound-proofing between you and the jungle. There is a separate block with cold showers and Western toilets for visitors, but they are in the middle of the jungle and quite basic. It is worth remembering to take your shower before it gets dark as there is very little electricity.
