The journey from Kota Kinabalu to Maliau Basin is approximately 6-7 hours (part of the road are gravel and bumpy!). Afternoon at leisure to wonder around Maliau Basin Studies and do the Nature Trail Walk. If the weather permits, go for a night drive in search of nocturnal wildlife.
Next morning depart for the Agathis Camp to begin the 7km trekking through the Rainforest to reach the Nepenthes Camp (also known as Camel Trophy Camp). This will take about 6 hours of trekking over the rim of the Basin. The first two hours is the most challenging uphill trek for this adventure. Stop for packed lunch and relax enjoying the surrounding rich vegetation. 1300hrs, expected arrival at Nepenthes Camp. Early afternoon walk to the Giluk Falls which is about 1 hour away and back to Nepenthes Camp. A dip in the pool is possible or walk for 2.5km to the spectacular, about 100m in height Takob Akob Falls which is about 2 hours away and back. You can do both waterfalls Giluk & Takob Akob if the time permits.
The following day, trek along the lowland Dipterocarp Forests for Maliau Falls. Along the way enjoy the panoramic view of the Maliau Basin rim at the Lobah Helipad. Take your camera and take some shots of the majestic 7-tiers Maliau Falls. 1800hrs, Expected arrival at Ginseng Camp.
On the last day after breakfast, trek along the forest making your way back to Agathis Camp (9km) and continue to Kota Kinabalu.

0700hrs - Pick up from city hotel and travel for about 2hours drive to Kimanis road through Crocker Range, enjoy the scenic mountainous countryside view. After that depart to Keningau town, visit the local coffee shop for drinks and collect our packed lunch for consumption along the journey. We shall continue our journey to Maliau Basin (part of the road are gravel and bumpy!). Total journey will take approximately 6-7 hours to Base Camp.
1400 hrs - Expected to arrive at Maliau Basin Studies Centre (MBSC). Afternoon at leisure to wander around Maliau Basin Studies and do the Nature Trail walk. After dinner, watch a video show which will give you more insight to Maliau Basin Conservation Area. Soon after that, enjoy a night drive in search of nocturnal wildlife (if weather permits).

After breakfast, it is time to proceed for 30mins drive to Agathis Camp for the trekking to begin. Soon we arrive, a briefing by the ranger will take place and we shall proceed for the 9 km trekking. The trek from Agathis to Nepenthes Camp (also known as the Camel Trophy Camp) is about - 6hours trek on foot over the rim of the Basin. The first 2hours uphill trek is the most challenging part of this adventurous journey. Enjoy your packed lunch along the trail. 1300hrs, expected arrival at Nepenthes Camp. Time for you to relax and freshen up.
By 1400hrs, if you are fit enough for another trekking continue your trek to Giluk Falls which is about 1 hour away and back to Nepenthes camp. A dip in the pool is possible or walk for 2.5km to the spectacular, about 100m in height Takop Akop Falls which is about 2 hours away and back. (You can do both waterfalls Giluk and Takob Akob if the time permits).

Dinner
0700hrs, after breakfast, depart from Ginseng Camp with packed lunch in hands and trek along the forest making your way back to Agathis Camp (9km). This will take about 6-7 hours trekking. Stop for packed lunch at any rest station before continuing your trek to Agathis Camp. 1400hrs - Transfer back to Kota Kinabalu and check. It is recommended to stay 1 night in the hotel in Kota Kinabalu (not included in the package).

  • Trekkers MUST submit their latest Fitness Certificate confirmed by a physician or doctor
  • Trekkers MUST submit a copy of their latest Personal Insurance Policy that covers emergency Helicopter evacuation
  • Special permission in needed and separate charges are levied for professional photography or filming
  • You are required to bring your own sleeping bag. First aid Kit and useful tool for trekking such as flashlight, leech socks, rucksack etc. (please refer list of things to bring)
  • Porter Services
    * can be engaged at the Agathis Camp. Trekkers are encouraged to carry their own backpack
    * Personal porter will assist trekkers and provide general help around the camp
    * Maximum of 12 KG per porter

  • Maliau Basin is adopting A ZERO WASTE MANAGEMENT POLICY, in which, for every non-organic waste produced must be carried out of MBCA.
  • Guest is to be accompanied by guide at all times and not allowed to wander on their own. Please note that for any activities especially trekking within the MBCA, the management will only provide Forest Ranger as to caretakers to the visitor during your stay at MBCA
