tour details

09:00 hrs - Pick-up from Miri city hotel or Miri airport for our 4-wheel-drive journey to Long Bedian. We will travel along gravel and logging roads, passing villages, longhouses and plantations. The journey will take approximately 4 hours. En-route we stop at Long Lama for lunch. Arrival in Long Bedian & check-in at a homestay. In the afternoon we will explore the village of Long Bedian. Sometimes you can see the semi-nomadic Penan people in the village of Long Bedian. They would come all the way from their settlements to sell their products like handicrafts or wild meat and also to get medical treatment for their families at the government rural clinic.
If you wish, your guide will bring you by 4-wheel-drive to the nearest Penan settlement, to experience the way of living of the former nomads of Borneo. Alternatively you may choose to visit the Tanyok waterfall.
Dinner will be served by our host family

Overnight at the village homestay (simple accommodation).

Meals included:Lunch
After breakfast, we depart Long Bedian by 4-wheel-drive for a 45 minutes' journey to Long Terawan, a village of the Berawan tribe. From here we will take a longboat to travel approximately 1 hour to 1.5 hours (depending on the water level) further upriver to Mulu. Arrival at Mulu and registration/check-in at the national park headquarters.

After lunch, you will take an approximately 45 minutes' walk along a wooden plank path through riverine and lowland limestone forest leading to Lang's Cave. Explore this beautiful cave with its stunning stalagmites and stalactites, followed by the Deer Cave with the largest cave passage in the world. This cave also houses an estimated 2 to 3 million bats, so be prepared for the stinging smell of guano.
After the exploration of these two amazing caves, you will proceed to the bat observatory platform. If weather permits you will witness the bats emerging from the cave in spiralling black streams.

Walk back to the park's headquarters the same way and return to your accommodation.

Overnight at Mulu National Park, ROH.

Meals included:Breakfast
After breakfast, you will embark on a 30 to 40 minutes boat ride (depending on water level). During a short stop at a Penan settlement, you will visit a small handicraft market.
Then proceed by boat to Wind Cave. Climb up a few stairs to the cave entrance. Inside the cave you will sometimes feel a slight breeze, which gave this cave its name. You will also find the beautiful King's chamber with its astonishing rock calcite formations. After exploration of this cave, take a 10 minutes' walk to the Clearwater Spring, where you will take a short break.
In order to reach the entrance of Clearwater Cave, you need to climb 200 steps. Inside the cave many more steps await you. But it is worth it, as this cave is probably the most impressive amongst all.
A simple picnic lunch will be served at the Clearwater Spring, after which you may enjoy a swim in the cool clear water of the Clearwater Spring.
Return to your accommodation. The afternoon is free at your own leisure to enjoy the beautiful natural environment or to sign up for one of the many other activities (not included in the package) offered by the national park, such as a canopy walk, a trek to a waterfall or a night walk. There is also a short and easy botanical loop trail for you to venture on, with interesting information boards about the amazing flora of Mulu National Park. If you were not lucky to see the bats the evening before or simply want to witness the natural spectacle one more time, you may also walk on your own to the bat observatory to try your luck again.
