Discover Ulu Batang Ai, an area bordering the Lanjak Entimau Wildlife Sanctuary, with a rich dipterocarp forest & clear streams. Here, you’ll find a natural habitat for some of Borneo’s most stunning wildlife. After leaving Kuching with a stop at a local market, you’ll cross Batang Ai Lake by native longboats to reach a longhouse. Enjoy the hospitality of the former headhunters before venturing on another longboat cruise further upriver. Trek into the rainforest in search of rare flora & fauna. The area is home to all kinds of wildlife & you might even see wild orangutans! Proceed to a simple jungle shelter to make camp before taking a dip in the crystal clear mountain stream. Another trek deeper into the rainforest will enhance your chances to spot some of Borneo’s elusive wildlife.

Pick-up from your hotel in Kuching for a 290 km journey with en-route stops at a local market and a stop for lunch at a local restaurant/ caf'e9.
After lunch you will proceed to beautiful Batang Ai lake. Here, you will board native longboats for about 60 - 90 minutes (depending on water level) which will take you to a longhouse. Get to know the Ibans and their families during a tea break. You will be taken on a guided tour around this longhouse and join them in their daily chores. Late afternoon, you may feel free to swim in the blue lake or have a cold shower before your dinner is served.
After dinner in the longhouse, mingle around with the people before you retire for the night.

Overnight at the longhouse (very simple accommodation).

Basic accommodation in the communal hall of the longhouse with mosquito net, mattress, pillows and blanket provided.

After breakfast in the longhouse you will take a longboat ride for about 15-30 minutes to reach your jungle trek starting point. From here you will trek deep into the rainforest in search of flora and fauna. Learn about the native jungle supermarket and pharmacy. During you trek you might see orang utan nests, which are built high up in the trees to protect themselves against any predators. A simple lunch, either packed or cooked in native style will be served along the way.
Afternoon, you will arrive at a simple jungle shelter and start to prepare for your overnight here. Take a cooling dip in the crystal clear stream before enjoying a simple dinner, while night falls over the rainforest.

Jungle camping (very simple accommodation).

Very basic jungle tent made of canvas sheets as roof and on the ground, with mosquito net and sleeping bag provided.

After a simple breakfast, embark on another trek through this jungle for more chances to see wildlife. Depending on weather and water level you may opt to trek a different route today. If you are lucky enough you may get a chance to spot other animals like wild boar, civets, deer and many more, which call this jungle their home.
A simple lunch, either packed or cooked in native style will be served along the way.
You will reach back to the longhouse in the late afternoon. Mingle with the village folks, watch them doing their daily chores or have a swim in the lake before dinner is served.

After breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to your newly found native friends and proceed by native longboat downstream to reach the van for your transfer back to Kuching with a stop for lunch en-route.

  • This tour can be combined with a visit of Semenggok Orang Utan Centre at an additional surcharge.
  • Even if the package is booked on private basis, the boat transfers & activities in the longhouse may be on shared basis in order to minimise impacts on the natural environment or if other circumstances require so.
  • Due to tough trekking under tropical climate conditions, this tour is very strenuous and one is expected to have high fitness level and good stamina.
  • Please travel light for the overnights at the longhouse, the jungle camping and the overnight in Jingin village. Suitcases can be stored at your hotel in Kuching.
  • Due to primitive conditions in the longhouse, be prepared for some discomfort. You will be accommodated in the community area of the longhouse with no privacy. A mattress, mosquito net, pillow, blanket and clean linen will be provided. Simple sanitary facilities are available. Pets like cats and dogs might be encountered in the communal hall of the longhouse and livestock such as chicken or pigs are roaming freely within the longhouse compound.
