tour details

Ulu Batang Ai is an area located in the upriver region of Batang Ai in the interior of Sarawak. Bordering the Lanjak Entimau Wildlife Sanctuary, which together with Batang Ai National Park and Indonesian conservation areas forms the largest trans-boundary protected area of the wet tropics, Ulu Batang Ai is a real rainforest paradise. With its rich dipterocarp forest and clear streams this region is a natural habitat for some of Borneo’s most endangered and magnificent wildlife, such as the orang utan, the Bornean gibbon, sun bears and five of Borneo’s eight hornbill species.

Pick-up from your hotel in Kuching for a 290 km journey with en-route stops at a local market and a stop for lunch at a local restaurant/ caf'e9.
After lunch you will proceed to beautiful Batang Ai lake. Here, you will board native longboats for about 60 - 90 minutes (depending on water level) which will take you to a longhouse. Get to know the Ibans and their families during a tea break. You will be taken on a guided tour around this longhouse and join them in their daily chores. Late afternoon, you may feel free to swim in the blue lake or have a cold shower before your dinner is served.
After dinner in the longhouse, mingle around with the people before you retire for the night.

Accommodation at the longhouse (very simple accommodation).

During you trek you might see orang utan nests, which are built high up in the trees to protect themselves against any predators. A simple lunch, either packed or cooked in native style will be served along the way.
Afternoon, you will arrive at a simple jungle shelter and start to prepare for your overnight here. Take a cooling dip in the crystal clear stream before enjoying a simple dinner, while night falls over the rainforest.
