3-Day Shangri-Lao Expedition

You will be met upon arrival at Luang Prabang airport, transfer to your hotel and check in. The crown jewel of Laos and former Lanexang, Luang Prabang, is perhaps the best-preserved traditional city in South East Asia. Magical and charming, it has preserved its long-standing reputation as a stronghold of Lao culture with its splendid natural scenery and sense of timelessness. In 1995 UNESCO voted Luang Prabang as a World Heritage City.
Lunch is at a local restaurant, with a chance to try some Lao dishes, and then you begin your exploration of the city temples starting with a visit to Wat Xieng Thong, considered the most beautiful temple. The sim of the Wat represents the classic Luang Prabang temple architecture with roofs that sweep low to the ground. In the compound stand several small chapels housing bronze Buddha images, which were displayed in Paris in 1911. Near the East gate stands the Royal Funeral Chapel. Inside are an impressive 12-metre high funeral chariot and various funeral urns of each Royal Family's member. The gilt panel on the exterior of the chapel depicts a semi-erotic episode from Ramayana. Also look out for the “tree of life” montage on the rear temple wall. From the temple we gain a different perspective of the city as we climb Wat Phousi hill for a stunning 360 degree view. After descending we explore Wat Visoun, the site of an impressive stupa, That Makmo, stylistically more Srilankanese than Lao. We can walk to nearby Wat Aham, which is one of the city's major tutelary shrines, dedicated to Deveta Luang (spirit) Pu Gneu Ya Gneu (ancestors).

After your afternoon visiting splendid temples you can relax and enjoy a Luang Prabang sunset at Wat Prabaht Tai, located along the Mekong River.

8:30 - 9:00 hours pick up by our English speaking guide at your hotel lobby within Luang Prabang. Arrival at the Elephant Village Camp and welcome greeting by your guide. Participate in a short briefing about elephants. Enjoy the impressive experience of a 1km bareback elephant ride! One person per elephant. After riding the elephant take a traditional Lao long boat to the Tad Sae waterfall and relax, dip your feet or go for a swim in the clear, cool ponds. You then receive your mahout training on how to control an elephant like a mahout
Lunch is at our Elephant Camp restaurant. A buffet lunch is served with coffee / tea and drinking water (vegetarian options available). After lunch bring your elephant to the jungle and enjoy the unique experience of riding your elephant in the evening to her jungle hideaway where she gets to retire for the evening.
Enjoy dinner at the Elephant Camp restaurant a set menu served with drinking water. Enjoy a relaxing night at our Elephant Lodge with stunning views of the Nam Khan river.

You won't believe how tranquil and beautiful the Lao jungle mornings are! In the morning, retrieve your elephant from her jungle hide away. Take your own elephant down to the Nam Khan River for an exhilarating bathing experience!
Enjoy breakfast at our Elephant Camp restaurant a set menu with coffee / tea and drinking water. Transfer back to your Hotel in Luang Prabang between 10:00 - 11:00 hours.Lunch at leisure. After lunch transfer with guide to airport for departure.
