tour details

Experience Vientiane’s ancient architecture, history and amazing greenery of Nam Ngum Lake.

Fly into the Vientiane Wattay Airport or cross by van or minibus at the Friendship Bridge and then meet and check in to the hotel. Vientiane, Laos’ capital city, has kept its timeless charm with tree-lined avenues, brightly painted temples and quaint French architecture.
After having lunch at a local restaurant, spend the afternoon exploring some of the serene Buddhist monasteries, which are among the city’s major attractions and dominate the centre of town. The first stop is Vat Sisaket, the oldest original temple in Vientiane, which features remarkable frescoes and 6,840 Buddha images. Built in 1818, Vat Sisaket is the sole survivor of an invasion in 1828.
Not far from Vat Sisaket is Ho Phra Keo. Built in 1565, it was once the royal temple of Lao monarchy but in 1970 it was converted into a museum and now contains some of the finest Buddhist sculptures and artefacts in the country such as antique brass drums and palm leaf manuscripts. The main structure also originally housed the famous Emerald Buddha that now resides in Bangkok’s Wat Phra Keo. One of the most photographed images of Vientiane is Patousay, the victory gate that is also known as Anousavari. Constructed in 1958, its architecture was inspired by the Arc of triomphe in Paris.
Another famous Vientiane landmark is the That Luang Stupa, which was said to once contain relics of Lord Buddha. King Setthathirath built this great sacred stupa in 1566 and it is now considered to be the national symbol. Its central structure is 45 metres tall and echoes the curving lines of an elongated lotus.

The evening will conclude with dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
Eat breakfast at the hotel and then transfer to the Vang Xang archaeological site. The name means ‘Elephant Palace’, a reference to the elephant graveyard found in the vicinity. The site, which consists of a cluster of 10 high-relief Buddha sculptures on cliffs, is usually assigned to an 11th century Mon provenance.
Continue to the beautiful Dane Pha Pink Sandstone Canyon, a holy site since the Mon times. Walk along the canyon to see the Buddha images carved on the cliffs and have a picnic lunch. Visit the famous weaving village of Ban Phone Ngeun, whose inhabitants come from Sam Neua, followed by a visit to Hmong village. Continue to Nam Ngum Lake and take a 2-hour boat trip exploring the lush vegetation along the backwaters.

Dinner and accommodation will be at the resort.
Eat breakfast at the resort before transferring back to Vientiane by car. Visit the salt extraction at Ban Keun and the local zoo.

Arrive in Vientiane in the late afternoon and then return to the hotel or go to the airport.
