The charming riverside town of Kratie is a perfect place to enjoy diverse landscapes, traditional villages and historic sites. We’ll visit Wat Phnom Sambok and enjoy magnificent views from the hilltop before we head to the best vantage point to view the rare Irrawady River dolphins. We’ll then head to Koh Trong island, in the Mekong River. The next day you’ll take a horse cart around the island, through traditional Kmer villages, fruit orchards and rice fields observing daily village life. We’ll head back to Kratie to explore the bustling Rokakandal Market and try some famous Kratie snacks. In the evening, you’ll join the locals by the river to watch the sunset with a refreshing drink. The last day will be spent exploring the ancient Wat Nokhor & the colonial architecture of Kampong Cham.

Depart from Phnom Penh to Neak Luong where you cross the Mekong River. Continue your journey to Prey Veng and Chhlong, a small and peaceful village on the Mekong River Bank with typical Khmer and Colonial architecture, and enjoy the diversity of landscapes of the surrounding pretty country side.

North of Kratie, visit Wat Phnom Sambok to see the Buddhist monasteries and to enjoy the magnificent views of the surrounding countryside from the hilltop. Further north along picturesque countryside roads stop at the best riverside vantage point from which to view the rare freshwater Irrawady River Dolphins which can be best seen late afternoon. Drive back to Kratie and take a small ferry boat to the island of Koh Trong situated in the middle of the Mekong River opposite Kratie town.

A 9 km loop around the islands provides opportunities to take a horse cart through traditional Khmer villages, fruits orchards and rice fields while observing the daily rituals and routines of the traditional village life. Participate in environmental activity by planting a tree at the tree planting site and continue your trip to a house to taste local Khmer cuisine for lunch.
Take a ferry ride back to Kratie.
Start your visit by local bicycle at the busting Rokakandal Market and buy some Krolan, sticky rice mixed with coconut and beans and cooked in bamboo tubes, Kratie's renowned snack. Continue to the old Rokakandal temple, originally built in the late 18th century. Look for the traditional decorations on the wooden pillars inside, the old timber monks' residence opposite and a beautiful old stone carving on the river of the Wat.
On the way back to Kratie town, see the domesticated Sambar Deer in the grounds of the French styled Governor's office on the riverfront. Along the banks of the mighty Mekong River you will see many small fishing boats plying their trade as well as a number of floating villages. As the sun begins to set you can join the locals and sit out near the river with a refreshing fruit shake whilst savoring the atmosphere.

Take a ferry ride to Kratie and depart by road to Kompong Cham. On the way to Kompong Cham stop at Chhup, a rubber plantation first established in the region by the French tire maker Michelin.
Lunch at local restaurant in Kompong Cham.
Visit Wat Nokhor with its ancient temple and modern style pagoda (12th century)and tour of Kampong Cham to view examples of colonial architecture. Make a stop in Skuon to taste Cambodia's more exotic culinary delights, the deep-fried spider.
Continue to Phnom Penh.
