Road to Mandalay is a cruise with many luxurious on-board facilities and a selection of activities is available throughout the day. When you are in Myanmar, a visit to Bagan’s most magnificent temples is also a must. Nothing can be better than enjoying a classical marionette performance while dining under the stars on the Observation Deck.

Discover a land barely touched by time on this condensed tour of Myanmar. Trip highlights include the ancient monasteries of Ava and the endless, glimmering temples of Bagan.

Program 2: Myin Mu – Bagan (17 – 31 January, February – March)

MANDALAY - AVA: October - December, 3 - 10 January
Board the ship at Shwe Kyet Yet village near Mandalay. Those who arrive early can participate in a Buddhist almsgiving ceremony on shore before the ship sails. Disembark in Ava to explore the ancient capital. Take a traditional horse and cart tour or embark on a bike ride through the historic sights. There are a range of activities on offer as the ship sails to Bagan. Attend a talk on Myanmar culture, sample local delicacies and infusions in our Burmese Tea Shop, learn how to dress in a traditional longyi sarong, or let our astrologer uncover what your future holds. You can also indulge in a treatment at the spa, work out in the gym or relax by the pool on the Observation Deck, the largest outdoor space of any river cruiser in Myanmar in the evening, dine on Asian and Western cuisine in the elegant Restaurant. Savour our excellent house wines or select a bottle from the extensive international list.

MYIN MU: 17 - 31 January, February - March
Board the ship at Myin Mu, a typical riverside town just 30 miles south of Mandalay and check-in at 07:00 hours. Enjoy a day at leisure, making the most of the luxurious onboard facilities. Relax by the pool, or opt for an indulgent treatment in the spa, before lunch. A selection of activities is available throughout the day. Sit in on a fascinating talk from our onboard doctor, get your fortune told by our astrologer, or learn how to tie a traditional longyi. Afternoon tea is served local-style in our 'Burmese Tea Shop' experience. In the evening, dress in your longyi for a fun-filled cocktail party followed by a delicious dinner.
BAGAN: October - December, 3 - 10 January
Stretch out and relax at an early-morning yoga or meditation session on deck before the ship arrives in Bagan. A range of tours are available for you to explore the magnificent, temple-strewn plain. The "Introduction to Bagan" tour takes in the temples and history. "A Day in the Life" examines local culture, food and markets, while "Bagan by Bicycle" lets those with a love for action and adventure discover the sights either with a guide or on their own. Before rejoining the ship for lunch, stroll through the small village that is home to Belmond's private jetty near Old Bagan. You may wish to visit Belmond's free clinic, where our onboard doctor is busy treating patients. In the afternoon visit Ananda, one of Bagan's most magnificent temples, and explore a rarely visited temple by torchlight. End the day by watching the mesmerizing sunset over the plains. Dine under the stars at the Road to Mandalay Grill on the Observation Deck, before enjoying a classical marionette performance.

BAGAN: 17 - 31 January, February - March

You may wish to visit Belmond's free clinic near the jetty in Old Bagan, where our doctor will be busy helping local patients. Lunch is served on board the ship. In the afternoon visit one of Bagan's most magnificent temples, Ananda. After, explore a rarely-visited temple by torchlight before witnessing the sunset across the plains. Dine under the stars at the Road to Mandalay Grill on the Observation Deck, before enjoying a classical marionette performance.
After breakfast disembark from Belmond Road to Mandalay ship for your own travel arrangements.

Notes:

  • All timings are approximate and should be used as a guide only

  • The rivers of Myanmar vary from season to season, with as much as a 30ft variance in water level. From January through June, the Ayeyarwady levels may drop, creating a narrower channel for navigation. To allow for these changes, Belmond Road to Mandalay may operate a revised itinerary and mooring locations may be amended.
