tour details

Serene cliffs, lush greenery and bustling river life – all part of Vang Vieng’s allure and charm!

You will be picked up at your hotel in Vientiane and drive to the famous Vang Xang archaeological site, dating back to the 11th century. The name of the site roughly translates to ‘Elephant Palace’ in reference to a nearby elephant graveyard. Here you'll have a chance to wander through the historic site. The site, consists of a cluster of 10 high-relief Buddha sculptures inscribed on the pink sandstone cliffs. It is usually assigned an 11th century Mon provenance. After the ‘Elephant Palace’ continue to Vang Vieng. En route, visit Ban Houei Mo, the fish market village, to get a sense of rural life here. Upon arrival in Vang Vieng, check in at the hotel.
This scenic, small provincial town is nestled along a bend of the Nam Song River. The natural attractions to explore include the karst topography lining the west bank of the river with distinctive sugar loaf hills, dramatic cliffs covered by lush vegetation and peppered by caves, a number of caverns and lush rice fields.
Lunch is taken at a local restaurant. In the afternoon you take a small boat trip for about 30 minutes (2 persons per boat) on the Nam Song River to visit the biological gardens and the natural cave of Tham Chang. Here you'll have a chance to cross the bridge over the Nam Song river to explore the cave system, learn about its history, legends, and why it is considered to be Vang Vieng’s most important cave. Outside the cave soak up the stunning views over the valley and take a stroll to the viewpoint. Return to Vang Vieng township and take time to explore the town further.
Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
Breakfast is at the hotel followed by a visit to the colourful local market and then an organic farm. These experiences help you gain a real sense of what rural life is like here. Afterwards we travel to Ban Phatang and then visit the Hmong minority village, Ban Phatao. Hmong women are renowned for their beautiful embroidered costumes and their impressive silver jewellery. As many Hmong still dress in a traditional fashion you will have the opportunity to see this for yourself and learn about this unique culture. Lunch is at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, return by road to Vientiane with a drop-off at your hotel.
