2.00pm, Walking tour of Malacca with Serge.
You will stand on the bridge over the Malacca river, once the center of trade between East and West. With Serge, you will walk on the left and on the right banks of the river. You will listen to the voices of the ruins on the Hill where the Malay Sultans, the Portuguese, the Dutch, the British and the Japanese, one after another ruled over the Straits of Malacca. You will rest under the shade of a Malacca tree where it all started. From churches to tombs, you will sit with men of God and famed warriors! You will listen to the call of the muezzin over the tiled roofs of Malacca, where the Buddhists, the Christians, the Hindus, the Muslims and the Taoists, all pray in the same religious fervor. You will listen to the voices of the streets, where from dawn to dusk work the disappearing artisans and newly arrived artists. More than the thirty-five museums of today's Malacca, the streets are the foremost museum, the art and folk traditions museum.
With Independence, Malacca became again Melaka, three syllables you can read in the landscapes, the stones and the times of a city, waiting to fulfill the dreams of the curious traveler.
The tour will cover: a River and a Bridge, a Square and a Fountain, a Clock Tower and a Town Hall, a Chinese Admiral, a Hill and a Spanish Saint, the King's House, a ruined Church and some tombstones, an Old Gate and a New Palace, a Story below a Tree, some swift lets, some Babas and some artists, some craftsmen and some associations, a Pagoda, a Mosque and a Temple, some more craftsmen, some Chettiars, some bird- nests, some spices and some saris, a leaning Church'85

End tour, back to hotel & overnight.
Accommodation at The Snail House. An immersion in the memory of Malacca, a townhouse, almost two century old, in the heart of town. Most probably one of the first efforts of private restoration using traditional material and techniques. It is also most probably the first house of character to open its doors to a limited public. It is recommended for guest with some interest in authenticity and with some keen interest in architecture and history.
