tour details

Located in the heart of the Borneo Highlands lies the small village called Kampong Nyegol. The village folks belong to the Bidayuh tribe, one of the many native ethnic groups in Sarawak, which is known for its outstanding hospitality. The surrounding of the village presents breath-taking views of the forest-covered mountains and the Bengoh lake below. Nearby waterfalls, jungle treks with typical Bidayuh bamboo bridges and the lush rainforest are a perfect setting for everyone yearning a mix of nature and soft-adventure!

Pick-up from the city hotel in Kuching and travel by air-conditioned vehicle to Bengoh lake in the Borneo Highlands. The journey will take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes and leads through beautiful landscapes dotted with villages and farms.
Upon arrival at Bengoh lake you will board an open-deck boat to venture on a boat ride of about 30-40 minutes. Enjoy the views of the surrounding limestone mountains covered in lush vegetation! After this scenic ride it takes a short trek of about 10-15 minutes uphill to reach Kampong Nyegol.
After check-in at the lodge your guide will bring you for a stroll around the village to get to know the native folks, while some women from the village prepare a lunch for you. During lunch you may discuss with the guide what you wish to do in the afternoon. You can get a better insight into the local people's daily life by joining their daily activities such as fishing or farming of rice, pepper, as well as other crops (farming activities depend on seasons and may vary from time to time). Or you may choose to relax on the veranda of the lodge with its stunning views over rolling hills.
In the late afternoon, the women of the village will teach you how to prepare some typical local dishes.
After dinner, your guide will bring you on a night walk (subject to weather conditions) to look for frogs, nocturnal birds and other creatures that wake up when night falls. Walking through the rainforest at night is a truly different experience. Be awed by the sounds of the amazing jungle orchestra at night!

Overnight at a lodge

Meals included:Lunch
Wake-up early to experience the special atmosphere during sunrise when the mist is rising slowly from the forest-covered hill slopes!
Simple breakfast at the lodge & check-out.
Another 10-15 minutes' boat ride and a trek of about 20-25 minutes uphill will bring you to Kampong Sting. Explore this charming little village and its friendly inhabitants before you embark on a trek of another 45-60 minutes to a waterfall. The trail leads through lower montane forest and includes the crossing of adventurous bamboo bridges. Upon reaching the waterfall your guide will start a fire to prepare a native picnic lunch. Witness how, with simple ingredients, a delicious meal can be steamed in bamboo 'pots'! You may also choose to take a refreshing dip in the natural pool below the waterfall.
In the early afternoon, trek for about 30 minutes back to the lake and return by boat and air-conditioned vehicle to Kuching. Transfer to your city hotel in Kuching.
