tour details

The pretty town of Kanchanaburi holds many moving reminders of the Second World War and is well worth a trip. We’ll visit the Thailand-Burma Railway Museum, the poignant War Cemetery, the famous Bridge over the River Kwai and the Hellfire Pass Memorial. From the memorial, we’ll take an hour’s hike in lovely scenery along the trail of the Death Railway. After a rest, we’ll cycle to a nearby village to watch baskets being skilfully woven from bamboo. After a night at Hin Tok River Camp, early risers may walk to a nearby temple to offer alms to the monks. After breakfast, we’ll visit a fascinating village of Mon people who retain their own distinctive language and culture. After lunch, we’ll finish off our trip by taking a thrilling ride over wooden viaducts on the historic Death Railway.

Early morning (06:00-06:30 hrs) pick up from downtown hotels in Bangkok and transfer to Kanchanaburi. Visit the Thailand-Burma Railway Museum, War cemetery and Bridge over the River Kwai. Drive to Hin Tok River Camp for check-in and lunch. In the afternoon, visit Hellfire Pass Memorial and take a hike along the trail of the former Thailand-Burma railway embankment (2.5 km, 1 hour walk - bring along strong walking shoes or sneakers). Transfer back by van to the camp and relax for a while, before taking a bicycle ride to the nearby village, where locals engage in weaving bamboo baskets. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Early risers may enjoy a bicycle ride or walk to the nearby temple across the river and offer food to the monks. After breakfast, check out and take a motorized long-tail boat to the Mon Village at Jungle Rafts. The ethnic Mon are of Burmese origin who retain their own culture and language. After lunch at a local restaurant, take a ride on the historic Death-Railway train. Transfer back to your hotel in Bangkok, where you will arrive at around 18:00 hrs.
Note: Package price does not include drop off at Suvanarbhumi airport, which needs to be booked and paid for separately.
