The country side in the Shan State offers the most stunning pictures. In every season the colours of the fields are different and the farmers doing their work offer great photo opportunities. Enjoy hiking through the villages on the hills, overnight at the monastery and experience the hill tribe’s authentic life. Return to Pindaya and visit the famous caves of Pindaya with many interesting Buddha statues.

The tour starts from Pindaya. Walk to the market and buy all the provision for your forthcoming two days hiking tour. This morning, enjoy a walk through the hills for about one hour, to Htut Ni, village of the Danu tribe. You will pass through farming land where the Danu cultivate cheroot, tea, damsons and mangoes on the hillsides. The track crosses the valley floor before climbing very steeply again to another Danu village of See Kya Inn. Continue to walk for another two hours to Yaksagyi, another Danu village and stop for lunch.
In the afternoon, observe tribal village life of how the Palaung people dry cheroot in a specially designed oven. Dinner (local cooking).
Accommodation at Yaksagyi Monastery.
Breakfast. This morning, enjoy continue walking through the hills. The path leads through several villages, producing Shan Tea in the traditional way. You will see the drying of the tealeaves and pass through the tea plantations. From the hills you can enjoy great views on the surrounding Shan plateau. Pass through Danu and Pa-O villages. Arrive in Pindaya around noon. Visit the famous Pindaya cave filled with many interesting Buddha statues.
The tour ends at Pindaya. Lunch at local restaurant.

  • Monasteries do not provide private bedrooms. Sleeping is arranged on mats in the main hall of the monastery. The mats are arranged in hostel dormitory style.
  • The mats provided are slim, and are covered with a blanket only. For this it is advisable to carry your own sleeping bag or thin bedsheet.
  • Food provided is prepared in local style and menus depend on what is available on the market.
  • Pillows are provided
  • for hygienic reason, do carry one pillow case.
  • The sleeping areas are divided for men and women (couples are not allowed to stay together).
  • Washing facilities are outside in open spaced special designated areas. There is no hot water. You should carry a sarong (or big thin towel) to cover your body while washing.
  • Most monasteries only have traditional toilets.
  • It is possible that in certain monasteries monks will chant all night long
  • if you are sensitive to noise, you should bring some ear plugs.
