Downtown Yangon, Myanmar

Declared “the finest hostelry East of Suez” by John Murray in his Handbook for Travellers written in the early 20th century, the 1901-built three storey hotel in Yangon remains one of Southeast Asia’s few grand colonial hotels and one of its most awe inspiring. The hotels victorian influence is visible even from the colonaded entranceway. Inside, marble floors inlaid with teak wood, rattan furniture, chandeliers and black-lacquererd ceiling fans reflect the long history of this hotel. The Strand is a member of the ‘leading hotels of the world’.
