Hanoi opens pedestrian zone around iconic Sword Lake

The Hanoi administration turned the area surrounding Sword Lake into a pedestrian area on 1 September. The pedestrian area is open from 19.00 hrs to 24.00 hrs from Friday to Sunday. Free WiFi access is also available in areas surrounding the Hoan Kiem Lake, according to the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications.

The municipal Department of Transport has dispatched functional units to supervise and control traffic flow while the city has adjusted certain bus routes to accommodate the initiative. Hanoi also plans to open 78 parking lots spanning 17,000 square metres that can accommodate 87 passenger buses, 600 cars, and more than 2,700 bikes and motorbikes at full capacity.

Currently, Hanoi operates several pedestrian zones in its famous Old Quarter, including Hang Buom, Ma May, Hang Giay, Luong Ngoc Quyen, Ta Hien, Dao Duy Tu, Hang Dao, Hang Duong, and Dong Xuan.
