The first-ever three-day Vietnam Mountain Bike Marathon is set to take place 4 – 6 November 2016 in the remote mountainous region surrounding Sapa.
The race is expected to take racers through terraced paddy fields and ethnic minority villages along a 55-kilometre trail in the beautiful and rarely visited Muong Hum Commune in northern Sapa which is home to the Hmong ethnic minority group. During the second stage of the race, which stretches 68 kilometres, bikers will head to Thanh Phu Commune populated by Tay and Red Dao peoples. The race will then conclude with a wild sprint back toward Sapa.
Registration for the bike race is now open and has already welcomed racers from Australia, Thailand, Switzerland, Malaysia and Indonesia. While the organisers are expecting to welcome some highly experienced riders who will be aiming for podium spots, they say that for many entrants, simply completing the three tough days will be a victory in itself.
For this first year, a charitable fee of USD $20 is included in every entry fee to support communities that live along the route.
