explore mystical myanmar and the taung-byone nat festival during a 9-day tour

The new 9-Day Mystical Myanmar tour is designed for guests to experience the biggest Taung-Byone Nat Festival, celebrating Myanmar’s supernational spirits known as nat, in Mandalay that happens once a year. For 2017, travel dates are set from 2 – 10 August 2017 in order to coincide with the festival date.

After arriving in Mandalay, guests join the special festival at Taung Byone the next day. Lasting for five days, the festival is a time of celebration and worship as thousands of pilgrims and revellers from across the country converge at Taung Byone to eat, drink, be merry and take part in special ceremonies every evening. Nats are believed to be supernatural, powerful beings and Myanmar people still actively worship them, believing that nat can bring luck and prosperity to worshippers and bad luck or danger to those who do not respect them.

After the festivities, continue on to Myanmar’s other sought after destinations, including Bagan and Inle Lake, before ending in Yangon. Soak up the beautiful scenery of the green season while visiting the enchanting Bagan and mingle with the locals during a stop at Ma Gyi Kan (Tamarind Lake Village), a community-based tourism initiative managed by the local community for the development of the village. Enjoy a home-cooked lunch, bullock cart rides, interacting with the villagers and experiencing the country lifestyle of this little village. Next, continue to visit the magical Lake Inle, famous for its stunning natural setting, handicraft traditions and the iconic ‘leg rowers’ – Intha fishermen who row standing up with one leg wrapped around a single oar, leaving their hands free to manipulate the conical fishing net. Finally, enjoy an introduction to bustling Yangon, a city that blends Myanmar’s past and present, before ending the journey.
